Hamilton Tiger-Cats News Release

Hamilton, Ontario - Earlier today, the Canadian Football League announced the nominees for the 2006 CFL Most Outstanding Player Awards. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats' nominees include:

TAY CODY / DEFENSIVE BACK Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Defensive Player

In his first full season in Hamilton, Cody instantly became a fan favourite due to his ability to deliver big hits and spectacular plays. In 15 games, the defensive back recorded 65 defensive tackles, three interceptions and forced three fumbles. This is Cody's first nomination for both awards.

ROB HITCHCOCK / LINEBACKER Most Outstanding Canadian and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player

Twelve-year veteran Rob Hitchcock continued to be a solid presence on the field for the Black and Gold in 2006. Hitchcock, along with B.C.'s Carl Kidd, currently leads the CFL in special teams tackles with 23. The Hamilton native also recorded 20 defensive tackles, one quarterback sack and a fumble recovery after playing in all 18 games this season. This is the third time Hitchcock has represented the Ticats as Most Outstanding Canadian (2002, 1999) and the first time he has been nominated for Most Outstanding Special Teams Player.

GEORGE HUDSON / GUARD Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman

In his first season in Black and Gold, Hudson anchored an offensive line that currently ranks third in fewest sacks allowed. This is Hudson's third nomination as Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman (2004,2003 - Ottawa), but first with the Ticats

LAWRENCE GORDON / DEFENSIVE BACK Most Outstanding Rookie

In eight games this season, Gordon, a Florida International product, recorded 19 defensive tackles, seven special teams tackles and two interceptions.

Nominees were determined by 40 voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada. Both the East and West CFL Player Award voting results will be announced on Tuesday, October 31.
