
Team Nominees Announced for CFL Player Awards

Toronto, ON (October 24, 2006) - The Canadian Football League (CFL) announced today the 2006 team nominees for the Rogers CFL Player Awards. The below players were selected by 40 voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC). In this first ballot, five FRC representatives from every CFL city submitted votes for each category. Voters were asked to select players from their local CFL club who through on-field performance excellence, best represent the awards' title - Outstanding Player, Outstanding Canadian Player, Outstanding Defensive Player, Outstanding Offensive Lineman, Outstanding Rookie, and Outstanding Special Teams Player [John Agro].
The East and West Rogers CFL Player Award voting results will be announced on Tuesday, October 31.

Outstanding Player:
Ben Cahoon has been named Montreal's nominee for the first time in his career. In the past five seasons, quarterback Anthony Calvillo has collected the award in Montreal.
Other first-time award winners this year include: Toronto's Arland Bruce III, Hamilton's Tay Cody, Calgary's Joffrey Reynolds and BC's Geroy Simon.
Charles Roberts has been named Winnipeg's Outstanding Player in four consecutive seasons.
Outstanding Canadian:
This marks the fifth year in a row Ben Cahoon has been voted the Alouettes' nominee for Outstanding Canadian. Cahoon won the award in 2002 and 2003.
This is Kevin Eiben's third straight nomination as Toronto's Outstanding Canadian. The last two seasons Eiben was runner-up to a pair of BC players, Brent Johnson and Jason Clermont.
Doug Brown collects his fourth nomination as he looks to win the League's Outstanding Canadian award for the second time in his career. Brown won it in 2001.
Outstanding Defensive Player:
Anwar Stewart, 2004 Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year, has been nominated for the second time in his career.
Barrin Simpson is nominated for the third time in his career, including being a runner-up in 2001 as a member of the BC Lions.
First-time winners include Toronto's Byron Parker, Hamilton's Tay Cody, Saskatchewan's Fred Perry, Calgary's Brian Clark and Edmonton's Robert Brown.
Outstanding Lineman:
Scott Flory is nominated for the third time as an Alouette. His two prior nominations garnered the East Division Outstanding Lineman. Flory was runner-up to Saskatchewan's Andrew Greene (2003) and Gene Makowsky (2005).
Jude St. John collects his second straight and fourth career nomination (2000, 2001, 2005)
Jay McNeil collects his third straight and fifth career nomination. McNeil was the West Division Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2001.
First time winners include Edmonton's Joe McGrath and Winnipeg's Ibrahim (Obby) Khan.
Outstanding Rookie:
Five of the eight nominated rookies are non-import players.
Last season Winnipeg's Gavin Walls won the award.
Outstanding Special Teams Player:
Noel Prefontaine was nominated for Toronto's Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2002, 2004 and 2005.
Fellow kicker Sandro DeAngelis collects his second Outstanding Special Teams Player honour in his second season with the Stampeders.
