2006 Most Outstanding Alouettes

Montreal, Oct. 24, 2006 - The Canadian Football League announced today the 2006 Rogers Most Outstanding Player Awards for each team. Here are the Alouettes' nominees:

MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER: BEN CAHOON (1st nomination)

Ben Cahoon is the Alouettes' nominee for CFL Most Outstanding Canadian for a fifth consecutive season after winning the award twice in 2002 and 2003. For the first time ever, he is also the nominee for Most Outstanding Player. Cahoon became the first player in Alouettes' history and one of the few in CFL history with 1000 receiving yards in five consecutive seasons. He has caught 94 passes for 1111 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games.

MOST OUTSTANDING CANADIAN: BEN CAHOON (5th nomination)

MOST OUTSTANDING LINEMAN: SCOTT FLORY (3rd nomination)

The 2003 and 2005 East Division Most Outstanding Lineman, Scott Flory has become the leader of Montreal's offensive line. Flory was CFL All-Star in 2002, 2003 and 2005, and an East Division All-Star in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005.

MOST OUTSTANDING DEFENSIVE PLAYER: ANWAR STEWART (2nd nomination)

Anwar Stewart continues to terrorize opposing quarterbacks not only with his speed but also with his capacity to intercept passes from his defensive line position. The rush end leads the team with nine quarterback sacks in addition to making 29 tackles including four for losses, and four knockdowns. He scored on a 35-yard interception return and caught a 52-yard pass.

MOST OUTSTANDING ROOKIE: ÉTIENNE BOULAY (1st nomination)

One of the best surprises for the Alouettes in 2006, Étienne Boulay had a stunning season. He made his first career interception and was a consistent threat on special teams, with an impressive total of 20 tackles. The Alouettes' 2006 second-round pick, 16th overall, made 12 defensive tackles, two interceptions, one fumble recovery and three knockdowns. He also returned four missed field goal returns for an impressive 122 yards.

MOST OUTSTANDING SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER: AVON COBOURNE (1st nomination)

Avon Cobourne was dominant on the Montreal special teams in each one of his responsibilities. Cobourne leads the Alouettes and is fourth in the CFL with 1,786 combined yards. He returned 51 kickoffs for 1,044 yards, 56 punts for 449 yards and five missed field goals for 261 yards. The fact he leads the Alouettes and is fifth in the CFL with 21 defensive tackles shows how complete a special team player he is.
