Hamilton Tiger-Cats News Release
Hamilton, Ontario - The CFL has released the official 2005 schedule and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will start their regular season on the road in Montreal on June 22nd. The Ticats return home to host their first game on July 2nd vs. the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Ivor Wynne Stadium.
In a move designed to better accommodate Tiger-Cat fans in 2005, Ticats' home games will be played predominantly on Friday and Saturday nights.
"Last year we asked our fans what night of the week they would like us to play on," said Senior Director of Sales, Marketing and Communications Adam Provost. "We found that the vast majority wanted us to go on Friday and Saturday nights. The consensus was that our fans wanted us to play on weekends and we listened."
This season, the Ticats will play five Friday home games including the pre-season exhibition game, four games on Saturday nights and the annual Labour Day Classic on a Monday afternoon, which kicks off at 5:45 p.m. this season.
"The Labour Day Classic is always a big event for us," said Team President David Sauve. "Families can come enjoy a great day of entertainment at the stadium and be home in time to get ready for school the next day."
The Tiger-Cats football staff is excited about the possibilities of the 2005 schedule as well.
"Like most team schedules, we have some good dates and some tough dates to play this season," acknowledged Ticats head coach Greg Marshall. "However, we're very excited about our home dates on Friday and Saturday nights at Ivor Wynne. Last year the team really fed off of the huge crowds and the excitement in the stadium and we're expecting those same crowds to give us a big advantage again."
This season will also welcome back the Ticats' pre-game party at Ivor Wynne. Fans are encouraged to show up two hours prior to kick-off to enjoy all of the pre-game festivities, live music, great food and many other special events going on inside of the stadium as part of the league's best game-day experience!
"It is important for us that each Ticat home game be its own special event," explains Christopher Dean, V.P. and G.M. of Business Operations. "We are constantly building on the game-day experience so that every game is a big game for Ticat fans."
Seventeen regular season Tiger-Cat games will be broadcast nationally by TSN and CBC. TSN will air 11 games while CBC will show 6 games, including the Labour Day Classic.
Tiger-Cats exhibition schedule kicks off with the Black and Gold intra-squad game on Saturday, June 4th at 2:00 p.m. at Ivor Wynne Stadium. Fans are invited to attend the game for free.
The Cats will then travel to Halifax where they will take on the Toronto Argonauts on June 11 (TSN), before returning to Hamilton to play their final tune-up against the arch-rival Argos on June 17 at Ivor Wynne Stadium.
Season tickets are still available in great locations at Ivor Wynne Stadium. Fans should call 905.547.CATS (2287) or log on to www.ticats.ca for ticket information.
