Ottawa Renegades News Release
OTTAWA â Canada Day will be Football Night in the Capital as the Ottawa Renegades host the Montreal Alouettes in their home opener at Frank Clair Stadium on July 1st.
The Canadian Football League's 2005 schedule was released Monday with the Renegades igniting their rivalry with their nearest regional opponent on one of the most popular days of the calendar in Ottawa. A week after beginning the fourth season of existence on national television in Edmonton, Ottawa will kick off at 6 p.m. on Friday Night Football â a game that will be televised on TSN and RDS.
"Canada Day in Ottawa is full of tradition and we are proud to host a game against the Alouettes on July 1st," said Renegades president Brad Watters. "This will be a big game for us and a great way to get the season started."
Two of Ottawa's first three games are on the road, before the club will face Calgary (July 16) and Edmonton (July 21). Between August 6 and September 2nd, the Renegades will play all but one game away from the capital, setting up the final two games of the season â October 29 vs Montreal and November 5th against the defending Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts â at home.
Three of the Renegades games will be televised on CBC and three also on RDS. The majority of Ottawa's contests will be carried by TSN.
The Renegades and Alouettes will also lock up twice in the pre-season once again. Ottawa visits Montreal on June 9th for the first exhibition game. The return match will be played June 16th at Frank Clair Stadium.
Ottawa has stretches of three games in 13 days three times in 2005. The month of July (vs Calgary July 16, vs Edmonton July 21, at Saskatchewan July 29); the month of August (at Hamilton August 6, vs Saskatchewan August 11, at Winnipeg August 19); the month of September (vs. Winnipeg Sept. 16, at Calgary Sept. 22, at Toronto Sept. 29).
The Renegades will have bye weeks in late August and mid-October.
The CFL playoff semi-final is set for Sunday, Nov. 13 and the divisional finals on Sunday, Nov. 20. The 93rd Grey Cup will be played in Vancouver on Sunday, Nov. 27.
