Lancaster Stormers News Release

Lancaster belted three homers in a row in the bottom of the first inning and cruised to a 6-2 win over the York Revolution in the opener of a three-game series Sunday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The win moved Lancaster within one-half game of York in the Freedom Division standings in the second half.

With two outs and nobody aboard, Tommy Everidge sliced a fly ball onto the picnic tents down the right field line to tie the game at 1-1. Matt Watson followed with a much longer homer to right for the lead, and Aaron Herr yanked a pitch from Jesus Sanchez (0-1) over the boards in left as Lancaster went up, 3-1.

Lancaster's next two runs, however, came as the bottom of the order played "small ball." Wayne Lydon led off the second with a walk, stole second and snagged third on a wild pitch. Sanchez struck out Matt Tupman, but Ozzie Chavez delivered Lydon with a single into right center for a 4-1 lead.

Lydon led off the fifth with a single to left and took second when the ball was mishandled by James Shanks. Tupman beat out a bunt single, chasing Lydon to third, and the run scored when Chavez grounded into a double play.

Everidge added his second homer of the night, clubbed just to the right of the batters' eye, leading off the Lancaster fifth, giving the club a 6-1 edge.

J.D. Durbin (5-1) again struggled early. Chris Walker beat out a one-out single in the first inning. Ramon Castro walked, and Jose Herrera lined a single to left to score the run. James Shanks singled to right to load the bases, but Durbin pitched out of the threat, fanning Val Majewski and getting a force play ground ball out of Vince Harrison.

The right-hander walked the bases loaded in the third, but again got a ground ball out of Harrison. York threatened again in the fifth as Castro and Herrera produced consecutive singles with one out. Durbin went to 3-2 on Shanks, and York started the runners. Shanks fanned on a breaking ball, and Tupman easily cut down Castro at third to end the inning.

Durbin lasted seven innings, yielding six hits and five walks. He fanned the side in the seventh, giving him eight strikeouts for the evening as he won his fifth straight start.

Harrison led off the ninth with a homer off Jonah Bayliss for the other York run.

The two clubs meet again on Monday evening at 7:00. John Halama (2-3) will start for the Barnstormers as York counters with Zac Cline (0-1). The game will be aired on Fox Sports Radio, 1490, WLPA and streamed live on sportsjuice.com and ibnsports.com.
