Waldorf, MD - Southern Maryland starter Virgil Vasquez fired six strong innings and designated hitter Adam Godwin drove in three runs as the Blue Crabs took game one of a three-game series over the Road Warriors 6-5 on Sunday evening in front of 2,094 faithful at Regency Furniture Stadium.
For the seventh time in 10 meetings the Road Warriors scored first as they plated three runs in the first inning. An RBI single by shortstop Danny Gonzalez and a two- run homer by first baseman Carlos Sosa (14) gave the Road Warriors the early lead.
But Southern Maryland scored the next six runs of the game off of Road Warriors starter Benny Cepeda. The Blue Crabs got two back in the first on a throwing error by Road Warriors catcher Josh Johnson that allowed Godwin to score from second, and a sac-fly by first baseman Ben Harrison that pulled Southern Maryland to within one.

But with the tying run at third and two out, Southern Maryland closer Jim Ed Warden got Gonzalez to strike out to end the ballgame.
