Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - After a doubleheader split in Rockford on Monday, the Windy City ThunderBolts wrapped up a three-game set of exhibitions with the Rockford RiverHawks on Tuesday afternoon with a 15-7 win at Standard Bank Stadium.
Both starting pitchers got off to strong starts in the game with the two teams combining for just one hit in the first two innings.
Rockford got on the board first when Jet Butler led off the third inning with a walk and eventually scored on Brandon Anderson's two-out single.
Windy City responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning, giving them a lead they would not relinquish. Bruce Alter's two-run single got the scoring started and the Bolts were aided by the control problems of Rockford's Nick Sarianides. He walked two in the inning and allowed both Alter and Mike Torres to score on wild pitches.
The ThunderBolts scored three more times in the fourth with Billy Nowlin's double and Chris Wade's RBI single coming as the big hits in the frame.
The RiverHawks chipped away at the ThunderBolt lead, scoring twice in the fifth and twice in the sixth. Devin Shepherd tripled in the latter inning and Michael Hur doubled him in, later scoring on a Butler sacrifice fly.
The Windy City barrage never stopped though, as the Bolts added three runs in the seventh, three in the tenth and two in the eleventh.
Rockford concluded the scoring with two runs in the eleventh inning on an Evan Button double.
Chad Cregar had three hits in the game for Windy City and Nowlin reached base four times.
Duke Dykeman picked up the win just a day after signing with Windy City. He allowed one run on two hits over four innings. Sarianides gave up seven runs in his four innings, taking the loss.
The Bolts continue their preseason schedule Thursday evening at 6:00 in Hammond, IN against the Gary South Shore RailCats. The regular season opener is Thursday, May 17 ay Standard Bank Stadium against the Joliet Slammers.
