Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
FLORENCE, KY - The ThunderBolts finished with 14 hits as they took an early lead and never looked back in a 9-2 win over the Florence Freedom at UC Health Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
The ThunderBolts got on the scoreboard early with Coco Johnson and Max White each hitting doubles in the first to make it 1-0. They added single runs in the second and third. Jacob Tanis picked up an RBI double and Mike Torres scored on a White groundout.
A couple of homers in the fifth helped the Bolts distance themselves. Coco Johnson's solo shot made it 4-0 and following a Torres walk, Austin Gallagher hit a two run bomb to make it 6-0. Alex Chittenden extended the lead by one more run with a solo home run the next inning.
The Freedom scored their only runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth. Frazier Hall's two-run triple brought them back to within five.
Travis Tingle was removed after six strong innings. He allowed only those two runs on five hits. Danny Jimenez pitched well out of the bullpen, throwing three shutout innings.
Windy City bolstered their lead with two late runs. Chittenden picked up an RBI double in the eighth and Cody Keefer brought home a run on a ninth-inning single.
Six ThunderBolts finished the game with multiple hits, including Torres, who moved into second place on the league's all-time list with his 606th and 607th career hits.
Tingle improved to 7-7 for the season with the win while Coleman Stephens (4-5) allowed six runs in five innings for the loss. Jimenez picked up his first save.
The ThunderBolts will continue their season-ending six-game road trip with the series finale in Florence on Thursday. Jake Fisher (5-6, 5.05) will start game three for the Bolts against Florence's Jeremy Gooding (7-4, 2.70). Thursday's first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 CDT and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
