Aviators Move into Tie for Final Wild Card Spot with Win over Greys
September 2, 2015 - Frontier League (FL)
Rockford Aviators News Release
LOVES PARK - The Rockford Aviators moved into a tie for the final Frontier League wild card spot with an impressive 6-0 victory over the Frontier Greys Wednesday night at Aviators Stadium. Roberto Padilla twirled 7 innings of scoreless ball, and 8 of 9 men reached for the Aviators in the effort.
Padilla used just 6 pitches to retire the Greys in the first, and from there worked his way out of some jams to put together his finest overall performance of the season. He struck out 5 and induced 2 double plays to help take the bite out of 6 hits and keep the Greys off the board.
The Aviators would give him an early lead on an RBI triple by Justin Fox in the second that scored Devon Rodriguez. Michael Hur would add a 2-RBI single in the 5th, and the Aves would add 3 in the eighth on extra base hits by Anthony Renteria and Cameron Garfield, cementing the 47th win of the year.
The Aviators are now tied for the 6th playoff seed with the Florence Freedom. Both teams are 47-45. The Aviators are also within striking distance of the 5th seed. Evansville has dropped 2 in a row at Normal and now sits just 1 game ahead of both Florence and the Aviators in the wild card chase.
Tomorrow will be the final regular season game of the year at Aviators Stadium. Tickets will be $1, courtesy of Townsquare Media, and it will be the final $1 Budweiser and Bud Light draft beer promotion. Fans are encouraged to come out and root on the Aviators one more time in Loves Park as we make this final push for the playoffs!
