Slammers Edged by Crushers 3-2 on Wednesday

Avon, OH The Joliet Slammers (39-53) were shut down by Lake Erie (38-53) 3-2 in game two of their three game set.

The Crushers pitching performance was the story of this game. Marc Flores hit a solo homer for the Slammers in the 2nd inning, but that was one of just three hits managed by the Joliet offense on the day. The other Slammers run came on an error by the catcher. Daniel DeSimone earned the win with five innings of work, allowing just two hits. Mike Devine then contributed three great innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit while striking out four and walking none. Trevor Longfellow picked up the save with a perfect 9th. Kevin Walter took the loss for Joliet, giving up a three-run 3rd inning that knocked him from the game. Juan Sanchez had their big hit with a two-run homer. That was followed by a Daniel Aldrich solo shot that turned out to be the game-winner. Luke Crumley came on and pitched five superb innings of scoreless relief. He allowed four hits with six strikeouts and just one walk.

The Slammers return home on Friday, Sept. 4th at 7:05pm to open the season-ending three game series vs. Rockford. The opener will be a Fireworks Friday and will be Halloween as well. Dress up and receive a drink voucher. Saturday at 6:05pm will be Breast Cancer Awareness Night and Sunday at 5:05pm closes out the regular season with Fan Appreciation Night.
