Slammers Defeat Lake Erie 5-3 on Tuesday

Avon, OH The Joliet Slammers (39-52) used a pair of home runs early and then hung on late to beat Lake Erie (37-53) 5-3.

Carter Bell got things going for Joliet with a 1st inning solo homer and Marc Flores added a two-run shot later in the frame. A Jeremy Nowak RBI single and a Jack Cleary sacrifice fly gave the Slammers a 5-1 lead in the 3rd inning. Andrew Strenge moved to (8-7) with the victory, as he allowed three runs on 8 hits in six innings of work. The Crushers scored single runs in the 4th and 5th innings and made a late charge in the 9th. Navery Moore earned the save in that last inning but struggled in doing so. He hit a batter, allowed a single and then a walk loaded the bases with just one out. Two strikeouts later, the Slammers handed the Crushers their 9th loss in their last 11 games.

The Slammers return home on Friday, Sept. 4th at 7:05pm to open the season-ending three game series vs. Rockford. The opener will be a Fireworks Friday and will be Halloween as well. Dress up and receive a drink voucher. Saturday at 6:05pm will be Breast Cancer Awareness Night and Sunday at 5:05pm closes out the regular season with Fan Appreciation Night.
