Evansville Otters News Release

Normal, IL- Mike Schweiss of the Normal Cornbelters (58-34) stymied the Evansville Otters (48-44) over 6.2 innings of work and the bullpen did the ret of the work for the Cornbelters as they shut out the Otters in a 6-0 victory.

Hunter Ackerman started the game for the Otters and allowed a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning on a pair of RBI singles and the Cornbelters took a 2-0 lead. They added to the lead in the fourth inning as Aaron Dudley, who drove in a run in the third, shot a ball over the left field wall for a two run home run, pushing the Cornbelters ahead 4-0. They added another on a solo shot by Sam Judah in the sixth and got another on a fielder's choice groundout in the eighth to score all eight of their runs.

The first eleven men of the game for the Otters were retired by Schweiss who eventually went 6.2 innings pitched, striking out six and not allowing a run. He left with men on first and second, and despite Kurt Wertz Jr. walking to load the bases, Cory Urquhart grounded out to short to end the threat. The Otters had runners in every inning from the fourth to the eighth, but stranded seven runners in that time.

John Schultz had another multi-hit game for the Otters, his fifth in a row, picking up a single in his third at bat and doubling in the eighth inning. Schultz's double was his 26th of the season, tying him for most doubles in a single season. Hunter Ackerman took the loss and is now 1-6 on the season between three teams and has an even 6.00 era.

The Otters will try to salvage the series against the Cornbelters tomorrow when they throw Trevor Walch against Chris Carmain (7-2, 2.58). Walch is coming off of one of his worst starts of the season last Saturday against the Washington wild Things when he allowed seven runs (six earned) in six innings against the Wild Things. Carmain on the other hand is coming off of a complete game win against the Rockford Aviators, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out eight and not walking a single batter. Tomorrow night's game is set to begin at 6:35 pm CDT with the pregame show featuring Jake Donnelly scheduled for 6:15 pm CDT.
