Thunderbirds Take Second Straight from BayHawks

Rio Rancho, NM - Led by Dar Tucker's 26 points the New Mexico Thunderbirds (4-1) won their second straight game against the Erie BayHawks (3-3) by a score of 96-83.

In the first quarter, the Thunderbirds went on an 8-0 run that was capped off by a Tucker three-pointer to open up a 24-13 lead with 2:55 remaining in the quarter. The Thunderbirds were held scoreless over the final 2:55, but still led 24-15 after one quarter.

The Thunderbirds outscored the BayHawks 28-26 in the second quarter to take a 52-41 lead at the half. T-Birds leading scorer, Alan Anderson played just six minutes in the first half and scored only four points, but the team shot over 51% in the half. Tucker led all scorers with 14 points at the break. .

Tucker continued to lead the way for the Thunderbirds in the third quarter. He scored eight more points in the quarter to help lead the T-Birds to a 72-62 lead heading into the fourth.

In the fourth quarter, the BayHawks closed within six points on a Tasmin Mitchell jump shot with 6:47 remaining in the game. The Thunderbirds would outscore the BayHawks 15-8 in the final five minutes to close out their second straight win.

The Thunderbirds will be back on Tuesday Dec. 7 at the State Farm Arena against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at 9:30 a.m.
