Thunderbirds and Defined Fitness to Host Welcome Back J.R. Giddens Night

Rio Rancho, NM - The New Mexico Thunderbirds have announced they will be holding Welcome Back J.R. Giddens Night on Wednesday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. when they take on the Bakersfield Jam.
The night will include a J.R. Giddens basketball card giveaway sponsored by Defined Fitness and a T-Birds magnet giveaway. The Thunderbirds will also be holding a J.R. Giddens autograph session after the game.
The Thunderbirds signed J.R. Giddens on Feb. 10 and he made his debut that same night against the Erie Bayhawks, scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds. He has played in four games total so far for the Thunderbirds and is scheduled to make his home debut on March 2.
Giddens played for the University of New Mexico during his junior and senior years of college. During the 2007-08 season, he averaged 16.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. He was named the Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Year and was also an Honorable Mention All-American.
The Boston Celtics selected J.R. Giddens with the 30th pick in the first round of the 2008 NBA Draft. Giddens averaged 1.9 points and 1.4 rebounds per game while shooting 47.6% in 38 career NBA games for the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks over two seasons.
The T-Birds March Giveaway Madness will then continue Friday, March 11 with Susan G. Komen for the Cure Night with a Thundercat Sticker giveaway.
On Saturday, March 12 the Thunderbirds will be hosting Hispanic Heritage Night sponsors by Univision and Premier Distributing Company. The T-Birds will be donating $4 of every ticket purchased to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. The night will include a postgame concert featuring the National Institute of Flamenco, Kymberlee Ann Lopez and Sorela. All fans will also have the opportunity to win Lakers tickets, a Taos Ski Valley Vacation, an Angel Fire Deluxe Ski Vacation and a VIP Package to Ty Murray Invitational.
