MOD - Andrew Martens was nominated last week as a finalist for this year's Most Outstanding Defenseman award. He earned that same honor in 2010-11. This is the third time in the last four seasons that a Thunder defenseman has been nominated while Kevin Young won the coveted prize last season. Martens scored his 11th of the season last Friday night and is six goals shy of tying Daniel Tetrault for second place all-time for goals scored by a Thunder blue liner with 48. He needs one more assist to move into a third-place tie with Cam Plante with 124. Martens is also three points shy of Sean O'Reilly, who had 169 points in his career, of moving into a second-place tie for a Thunder defenseman. The Most Outstanding Defenseman Award will be announced on March 26th.
MOVIN' UP - RG Flath moved into a three-way tie with Paul Jackson and Cory Dosdall for ninth place all-time for goals scored in a Thunder uniform with 71 on Saturday after he recorded the game-winner with just over two minutes to go. He has five points (1g, 4a) over his last three games and needs 22 points to reach 300 for his pro career.
SUMMERS STREAKING - Matt Summers has goals in his last three games and points in four-straight (3g, 3a). His season-high of five-straight games came back from January 24th to February 1st when he tallied six assists in five games. The Savage, Minnesota native came to Wichita back in 2011 and put up back-to-back 60-points campaigns. He needs 11 points to hit 50 this season as he currently has 39 (13g, 26a).
ALWAYS A FIRST - Jon Booras recorded his first shorthanded goal of the season on Sunday that gave the Thunder a 3-0 lead in the second. He extended his point-streak to five games (1g, 5a) and his first goal since February 25th against Arizona. The Billings, Montana native leads the team with 60 points.
MADDEN FINDING STRIDE - Jon Madden had his second two point-outing of the season on Sunday, scoring the first of the game from the blue line and assisting on another. The Brighton, Michigan native needs two points to double his rookie numbers as he currently has five goals and nine assists.
