PERFECT WEEK- After a packed week, Wichita got some rest and prepared for another three-in-three, beginning this past Friday against Fort Worth. Kevin Regan earned his second shutout of the season, stopping all 22 shots he faced in a 6-0 victory over the Brahmas. Todd Griffith and Greger Hanson combined for four goals in the win. On Saturday night, Wichita trailed twice before coming back to roll past Tulsa late, 5-2. Neil Trimm scored two goals in 29 seconds as the Thunder tallied four unanswered. Wichita finished off the weekend with another comeback win on Sunday afternoon 4-3 in a shootout. Kevin Young tied the game on a power play in the third period and Greger Hanson scored in the eighth round of the shootout to give the Thunder their fourth victory in a row.
200 PLATEAU- RG Flath recorded his 200th career point on Sunday afternoon, assisting on the first Thunder goal of the game against Fort Worth. Flath came into the season with three milestones to achieve and has one left as he is five goals shy of 100 for his career. The Park City, UT native has recorded eight goals and 14 assists so far this season.
YOUNG HONORED- Kevin Young was selected as the Oakley CHL Player of the Week on Monday. Young has scored goals in the last three games and finished off the week with four points. Two of his goals tied the game and gave the Thunder a chance to come back for the victory. Young leads the league in scoring by a blue liner with 24 points (10g, 14a).
D-MEN SCORING- Nathan Lutz and Dave Inman aren't too far behind Young at the top of the leader board for points for defensemen. Lutz is currently in fifth place with 16 points (2g, 14a) while Inman is alone in sixth with 15 points (4g, 11a).
ANCHOR- Kevin Regan has won his last five starts and only allowed six goals over that stretch. In his last nine starts, Regan is 8-1-0 with 15 goals against, goals against average of 1.65 and a save percentage of .935. He leads the league in minutes played (1090:12), wins (11), second in saves (421), third in GAA (2.04) and fifth in save percentage (.919).
RALLY CRY- Wichita may have put themselves in an early hole each of the last two games, but they have been able to rally back to come out on top. On Saturday night, the Thunder trailed twice before pulling away late in the third over Tulsa. Sunday was much of the same, as the team had to fight back three separate times to tie the game against Fort Worth. No team in the CHL has more wins when trailing after two periods this season (3). The two comeback wins have helped Wichita to a four-game win streak.
HEY ROOK- Greger Hanson is coming off a four-goal week and currently leads all rookies with 26 points (12g, 14a). The Swedish native had been held off the score sheet for six games before recording two last Friday night. Hanson has scored half of his goals against the Brahmas (6) and leads the Thunder with nine points in the series. Wichita plays Fort Worth the next two games to finish off a stretch of four out of the last five games against the Brahmas.
IN THE BLACK- Wichita has five players in the top ten and three of the top four in plus/minus. RG Flath and Matt Summers are in a three-way tie at the top with Missouri Mavericks forward Sebastien Thinel (+17). Nathan Lutz is in fourth place (+16) while Hanson is in seventh (+11). Neil Trimm is tied in 10th place with a +10.
