Arizona Sundogs News Release
Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs snapped their seven game losing streak tonight when they held off the Mavericks in a 6-3 victory at the Independence Event Center.
The Mavericks held on to an early lead when Evan Vossen tallied the first goal 10 minutes into the first period and was followed four minutes later by a goal from Brandon Smith. The Arizona Sundogs went on their first power play of the evening when Colten Hayes was called for slashing, but Arizona was unable to get a single shot off during the man advantage. With 33 seconds left in the opening period Sundogs Jason Morgan was able to slip the puck in the back door of Missouri's netminder Mike Clemente cutting the Mavericks lead in half. John-Scott Dickson scored Missouri's third goal extending their lead by two points 11:29 into the second period.
The final period would prove to be Arizona's triumph in tonight's game against Missouri when they collected five of their six goals in the remaining 20 minutes. As the Mavericks went on the power play after Matt Tassone was called for interference Missouri pulled their goalie for a 6-on-4 man advantage looking for the game winning goal. Arizona answered back in the final two minutes when both Jake Hauswirth and Derek LeBlanc scored short-handed goals extending the Sundogs lead, 6-3.
Both goaltenders were stellar in their respective nets as Arizona's Brown made 33 saves and Missouri's Clemente made 41 saves. Sundogs led shots on goal tonight 45-36 and both teams were 0-2 on the power play. Nehring continues his four game point streak and LeBlanc makes his 102nd goal of his pro career. The Arizona Sundogs will meet the Denver Cutthroats on Friday in a two game set at the Denver Coliseum.
