Thunder use four-run eighth to rally past Norwich

(Trenton, NJ)- Bronson Sardinha hit a 3-run homer and David Parrish had the game-winning RBI single in the eighth inning to help Trenton shock Norwich 6-5 in Eastern League play Saturday night. The win snapped Norwich's six-game winning streak.

With Trenton down 5-2 in the 8th Inning, Andy Cannizaro singled and advanced to third on a Jake Weber double to start the inning. On the next pitch, Bronson Sardinha hit a home run off Norwich reliever Luke Anderson (7-2) over the right field wall to knot the score at 5-5. Later in the inning, David Parrish singled to center field with two outs to score Craig Wilson giving Trenton (42-44) a 6-5 lead.

David Shepard pitched the ninth inning to pick up his 12th save of the season. Shepard struck out Michael Cervanek, who earlier connected on a two-run homer for the Navigators, to end the game.

Matt Smith (4-3) made his first appearance since coming off the Disabled List to pick up the victory. In relief, Smith went 3 2/3 shutout innings yielding just one hit. He also struck out three and walked none. Trenton starter Sean Henn threw 4 1/3 innings and gave up eight hits and four earned runs.

The Thunder trailed 5-0 before they started their comeback. In the 5th Inning, Andy Cannizaro connected on a two-run double to cut the Norwich lead to 5-2. Canninzaro, Parrish, Jake Weber, and Craig Wilson each had two hits for Trenton. Mitch Jones' consecutive game home run streak ended at five games.

The series will continue on Sunday afternoon at 5:05 p.m. as Chien-ming Wang (5-5) will go up against Norwich's Chris Begg (5-1).
