New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH - Catcher Paul Chiaffredo went 4-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs, and centerfielder Justin Singleton went 4-for-5 with four RBIs as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats blasted their way to a 12-7 victory over the Harrisburg Senators Saturday night at Gill Stadium.
New Hampshire (50-38) improved to 12 games above .500 for the first time this season, with right-hander Josh Banks (1-3) earning his first win. Banks worked seven innings, allowing a run on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts. He departed with the Fisher Cats leading 11-1, before Harrisburg (29-59) scored six times in the ninth inning against reliever Dan Jackson, who did not record an out. The disastrous inning raised Jackson's ERA from 4.03 to 5.24.
The Fisher Cats scored four times in each of the first two innings against Senators starter and loser Justin Echols (3-7), who left with two outs in the second inning. Chiaffredo joined Singleton as the only Fisher Cats to produce multiple home run games this season. The catcher's first long ball came off Harrisburg righty Chuck Crumpton in the sixth inning, a solo blast over the left-centerfield wall. Two innings later, Chiaffredo went deep over the right field wall, connecting off right-hander Chuck Crumpton. Chiaffredo's average jumped from .263 to .296, and he doubled his homer total from two to four on the season.
Singleton tied the New Hampshire team record with base hits in five consecutive at-bats, dating back to his final at-bat Friday night. He and Chiaffredo matched the franchise mark for RBIs in a game with four. First baseman Mike Snyder (1-4, 2 RBI) and DH John-Ford Griffin (2-for-5, 2 RBI) also had multiple-RBI games for the Fisher Cats, who moved to within 1/2 game of first place Binghamton in the Eastern League's Northern Division (pending outcome of Mets night game).
New Hampshire and Harrisburg meet for the third game of their four-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm. Right-hander Jamie Vermilyea (2-0, 0.00) looks to continue his perfect season for the Fisher Cats when he opposes Senator lefty Jason Stevenson (5-7, 3.77). Coverage of the game begins at 12:35pm on the WKXL Fisher Cats Radio Network, available on-line at www.fishercatsradio.com and www.wkxlradio.com.
