Thunder Start May With 10th Straight Win

(Trenton, NJ)- Ramiro Pena and Shawn Garrett had three hits apiece, while Brett Smith worked six shutout innings, to lead Trenton to a 5-1 over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Tuesday night. The victory was the 10th in a row for the Thunder, who have and 18-2 record.. the best in Minor League Baseball.

The Thunder jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st Inning as Pena singled and later scored on a hit by Garrett off New Hampshire starter Mike MacDonald. After a run in the 3rd Inning, the Trenton lead went to 3-0 in the 5th Inning as Garrett singled home Pena again. MacDonald (3-1) took the loss allowing three runs on eight hits in four innings. He walked five without a strikeout. Garrett had two RBI with his three hits, while Pena scored three runs.

Trenton starter Brett Smith cruised through six innings before coming out of the game in the seventh. Smith (2-0) scattered four hits on the night with one walk and four strikeouts. The Thunder added insurance runs in the 7th Inning (RBI single by C P.J. Pilittere) and the 8th Inning (Matt Carson sacrifice fly). The Fisher Cats (12-8) broke up the shutout with a run in the 9th Inning thanks to an RBI double by SS Sergio Santos.

The series continues at 11:05 AM on Wednesday. Alan Horne (3-0, 3.18) starts for the Thunder against New Hampshire's Kyle Yates (0-1, 5.40).
