Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
The Binghamton Mets put three runs on the board in the first, but the New Britain Rock Cats used a big third inning to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish for a 12-4 victory at New Britain Stadium Tuesday.
The B-Mets (5-13) loaded the bases before New Britain starter Nick Blackburn recorded an out, thanks to back-to-back singles by Fernando Martinez and J.E. Cruz and a five-pitch walk to Miguel Negron. Martinez scored on Mike Carp's RBI groundout, Cruz came home on an error and Negron came in on a Mike Nickeas sacrifice fly for a 3-0 Binghamton lead.
However, New Britain (8-9) sent 10 men to the plate and scored five runs in the fifth. B-Mets starter Jose Sanchez loaded the bases with no outs on a pair of hits and a walk before Brian Buscher singled home a run. After getting an out, Sanchez (0-1) was reached by former B-Met Rashad Eldridge for a grand slam that put New Britain on top 5-3.
Binghamton got another run off Blackburn (1-0) in the sixth when Carp singled, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on Caleb Stewart's two-out hit, pulling within 5-4. New Britain retaliated by scoring seven unanswered. Buscher drove in runs with RBI singles in the sixth and seventh, Trevor Plouffe doubled home two more runs in the seventh and Brock Peterson, Brandon Roberts and Felix Molina all had RBI hits in the eighth.
Wednesday, the B-Mets play the second game of their three-game series at New Britain. Marcos Carvajal (0-1, 9.00) gets the start for the B-Mets against Jesse Floyd (1-3, 5.40) of New Britain. Game time is 6:35 from New Britain Stadium with the radio broadcast starting at 6:20 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
Notes: Binghamton's lost eight straight road games, not winning since 4/19 @ TRE...B-Mets starters allowed 6 ER in their last four appearances before Sanchez gave up five runs tonight...Binghamton's led in each of their last six contests, going 2-4...both Eldridge and Buscher had four-hit games, combining to drive in seven of New Britain's 12 runs.
