
Santos' RBI double prevents shutout, as Fisher Cats fall in Trenton, 5-1

Trenton, NJ -Brett Smith scattered four singles over six scoreless innings, and Ramiro Pena had three hits and three runs scored as the Trenton Thunder registered their 10th consecutive victory, 5-1, over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Tuesday night at Waterfront Park.
Trenton (18-2) took a 1-0 lead by scoring an unearned run against Mike MacDonald in the bottom of the first inning. Pena (3-for-4, 3 R), Cody Ehlers (1-for-1, 3 BB, R) and Shawn Garrett (3-for-3, RBI) hit consecutive singles, with Pena scoring on a fielding error by Dustin Majewski.
Pena, Ehlers and Garrett reached base a combined 11 times in 12 plate appearances, scoring four times.
PJ Pilittere went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs for the Thunder.
MacDonald (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season for New Hampshire (12-8), allowing three runs -two earned- over four innings. He allowed eight hits -all singles- and walked a season-high five batters without recording a strikeout.
Smith (2-0) did not allow a Fisher Cats' runner to reach third base in his six innings of work. He struck out five, including back-to-back strikeouts of Majewski and Manny Mayorson with the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning.
Sergio Santos (1-for-4, 2B, RBI) prevented the shutout with an RBI double, his Eastern League-leading 16th extra-base hit, off Jeff Kennard in the ninth inning that scored Chip Cannon (1-for-3, BB, R) from second base.
The Fisher Cats look to even the series Wednesday morning at 11:05am when they send right-hander Kyle Yates (0-1, 5.40) to the mound against Trenton right-hander Alan Horne (3-0, 3.18) at Waterfront Park.
