Wichita Thunder News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder exploded for a 7-3 win over the Tulsa Oilers at the Kansas Coliseum on Wednesday night. Scott Rozendal scored Wichita's second hat trick of the season, while Rozdendal's linemates Jason Duda and Brad Thompson combined for three other goals.

Wichita fell behind 1-0 at 5:09 in the first period on a goal from Tulsa's Brendon Hodge, but Jordan Hack scored his fourth goal of the season to tie it at 6:17. Duda scored at 10:30 to give Wichita the lead, one that the Thunder would never relinquish. Thompson scored at 17:20 to make it 3-1.

After Tulsa trimmed the lead to 3-2 at the end of the first, Rozendal scored a pair of goals in the second period, including tallies at 5:15 and 18:24. It appeared that Rozendal's first goal was waved off, but referee Tom Steinel overturned his own decision and ruled the play a Thunder goal.

The Oilers sliced Wichita's lead to 5-3 on a third period power play goal from Hodge. Thompson connected on his second goal of the night at 15:57, also on the power play, to extend the lead to 6-3. Rozendal capped off the contest with his third goal, another on the power play, at 17:22 when he tipped in a shot from Jason Tessier.

Tim Boron earned his first win as a member of the Thunder, stopping 31 of 34 shots. Boron has started three consecutive games.

Troy Ofukany picked up two fighting majors, while Andrew Davis earned one. Greg Cassista and Jonathan Bernier were scratches and are considered day-to-day.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak, and was Wichita's first victory over Tulsa in three tries this season. The seven goals tie a season-high, which was also reached on October 25th at New Mexico, which coincidentally featured Wichita's other hat trick this season.

Wichita heads back to Tulsa on Friday to take on the Oilers for a third straight game. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Coverage will begin locally on 1410AM KGSO and worldwide at www.allinbroadcasting.com

The Thunder returns home Saturday night for a match against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. The game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call the Thunder office at 264-GOAL.
