RiverKings Use Four-Goal Period in Rio Grande Valley

(Hidalgo, TX) - Jeff Nelson's two goals and strong goaltending from Kevin Beech gave the Mississippi RiverKings a 4-1 victory at Rio Grande Valley on Wednesday, November 26th.

The first period was scoreless and Beech was big for the RiverKings, stopping 17 shots on net. Mississippi was outshot 17-13 in the first twenty minutes of action.

After trailing 1-0 early in the second period on a goal from Robin Bouchard, the RiverKings then blitzed RGV goalie Wylie Rogers for four goals and a 4-1 second intermission lead.

Garrett Larson opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the year at 4:16, assisted by Bobby Chaumont and Louis Dumont to tie the contest at 1-1.

Jeff Nelson scored the next two goals on the power play. The first came at 9:45 of the middle frame, assisted by Chaumont and Jeff Alcombrack. The second one came nearly two minutes later at 11:44, assisted by Matt Summers and Alcombrack, for a 3-1 lead. Dumont finished off the second period scoring with his ninth goal of the year, assisted by Andrew Lackner and Larson, at 17:18.

There was no further scoring in the contest.

Mississippi out shot Rio Grande Valley 41-35 for the contest, as Beech finished with his tenth victory of the season (10-5-0), thanks to a 34 save performance. Wylie Rogers (4-3-1) took the loss for RGV with a 34-save effort.

The RiverKings were 2-for-4 on the power, and held the Killer Bees to a 1-for-4 power play performance for the night.

Mississippi's record for the season is now 10-7-0 for 20 points and they are in a tie for second place in the Northeast Division, after Bossier-Shreveport lost in a shootout, 2-1 at Texas.

Mississippi now heads back to Corpus Christi for a two-game set with the IceRays on Friday, November 28th and 29th. Both games will start at 7:05 PM and will both be broadcast on Sports 56, WHBQ at 6:50 PM each evening.

The next home games for the RiverKings will be December 12th and 13th in a two-game set against the Texas Brahmas at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, beginning at 7:05 PM each night.
