Rage Rally Falls Short

Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Loveland, Colo. - Down 5-1 in the first minute of the third period, the Rocky Mountain Rage staged an impressive rally throughout the final frame before eventually losing to the Colorado Eagles at the Budweiser Events Center, 6-4.

The Rage led off the scoring with a short-handed goal 6:46 into the game. Colt King spearheaded a two-on-one and centered to David Morelli, who potted his fifth of the year. Colorado answered at the 10:00 mark by taking advantage of a Rocky Mountain turnover at its own blue line. Marty Magers made an initial save, but the Eagles' Konrad Reeder capitalized on the second chance opportunity to deadlock the game at one.

Still tied at one to begin the second, Colorado took control of the contest during the middle frame. Riley Nelson lit the lamp off the rush at 7:39, and Adam Hogg extended the lead to 3-1 off a rebound at 11:07. Erik Adams then tacked on the Eagles' third goal of the period on the power play at 16:27 to give his club a 4-1 edge through 40 minutes.

Colorado seemingly put the game out of reach in the first minute of the third, taking a 5-1 lead when Scott Polaski hammered home a blast from between the circles at :55. The Rage began to chip away, though, once Aaron Davis scored on the power play at 5:44 to extend his team season-high goal streak to five straight games. Scott Wray pulled Rocky Mountain within 5-3 at 13:07 off a deflection to register his seventh of the year.

Things then got real interesting after the Rage pulled Magers in favor of an extra attacker. Pat Sutton gloved down the puck at the offensive blue line, threw it toward the net, and through traffic it eluded Colorado netminder Morgan Cey to bring Rocky Mountain within a single tally with 38 seconds remaining. The Rage pulled Magers once again after controlling the ensuing face-off, but the Eagles stole the puck through center to set-up Reeder for the empty-net goal that sealed the game.

The loss snaps a three-game point streak on the road for Rocky Mountain, dropping the club to 4-9-1 on the year and into fourth place in the Northwest Division with nine points.

The Rage continue a busy holiday slate of games with a clash on Friday on the road against the Amarillo Gorillas at 6:05 p.m. MST. Fans can catch all the play-by-play action live from the Amarillo Civic Center on ESPN Radio 1600 beginning at 5:55 p.m. with the pre-game show.
