Thunder Sign Forward Trevino
October 4, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release
Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder have agreed to terms with forward Corey Trivino. The 23-year old from Toronto, Ontario will join the team for the start of training camp. With the addition of Trivino, the Thunder now has 28 players on its training camp roster.
The Thunder acquired the ECHL rights to Trivino in the offseason on June 12th, as the "future considerations" from the Florida Everblades in exchange for goaltender Cody Reichard, who was dealt to the Blades on March 7, 2013.
Trivino posted 18 goals and 33 assists (51 points) in his first professional season last year. He led all Everblades rookies in scoring and was fifth among first-year players in the ECHL. He added 3 goals and 8 assists in 13 playoff games as Florida lost to the eventual champion Reading Royals in seven games.
The 6-1, 193-pound center was a former New York Islanders' draft pick. Trivino was selected in the 2nd round (36th overall) by the Isles in the 2008 NHL entry draft. He appeared in 112 games with Boston University (NCAA) where he posted 31 goals and 42 assists (73 points) in four seasons.
Trivino won an NCAA championship as a freshman with the Terriers in 2008-09 and won a gold medal with Canada at the 2008 World U-18 Championships in Russia.
The Stockton Thunder open the regular season at home for "Opening Night", with the unveiling of the Western Conference Championship banner on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. against the Colorado Eagles at Stockton Arena.
A two time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence" and defending Western Conference Champion, the Thunder led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the eighth consecutive season in 2012-2013. Season Tickets and Mini Plans are on sale now.
