Stockton Thunder News Release
Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have announced that they have signed defenseman Brice O'Connor to an Amateur Tryout Contract (ATO) per Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm.
O'Connor, 23, just finished his NCAA career where he spent four years manning the University of Maine blueline. During his senior season, O'Connor captained the University of Maine Black Bears, playing in 34 games and finishing with 2 goals and 7 assists to match his career NCAA high of 9 points. In total, O'Connor played 104 games with the Black Bears finishing his NCAA career with 5 goals, 20 assists and 157 penalty minutes.
The Londonderry, New Hampshire native played with the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs of the EJHL and won the EJHL championship in 2009-10, the same season he won the EJHL's Defensive Player of the Year award and led EJHL defenders with 28 assists.
O'Connor has two connections to the Thunder, having played with current Thunder forward Joey Diamond at the University of Maine and that his brother Ian O'Connor suited up in 49 contests with the Thunder in 2011-12.
The Thunder return to action this weekend with two games against the Alaska Aces on Saturday and Sunday at Stockton Arena. The Thunder will be wearing their "Rough & Ready Islanders" jerseys for the only time at home this season on Saturday night. The jerseys will be auctioned off through a live post-game auction, silent auction and online auction. The first 1,000 fans entering Stockton Arena will receive a free Thor mini-bobblehead featuring the "Rough & Ready Islanders" jersey. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. PST.
The Thunder ask that fans traveling southbound on Interstate-5 give themselves extra time to get to the arena, as the West Fremont Street off-ramp will be closed for roadwork during the weekend. Fans can detour through the Monte Diablo off-ramp to get to Fremont Street. For more information visit StocktonThunder.com.
