Thunder RHP Hughes added from Temporarily Inactive List

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees announced today that RHP Philip Hughes has been activated from the Temporarily Inactive List and RHP Francisco Butto has been placed on the Temporarily Inactive List. Hughes was placed on the TIL because of his participation in the Futures game as part of the Major League All-Star game festivities in Pittsburgh. Butto is being on placed on the TIL due to personal reasons.

Hughes, the number one rated prospect in the Yankees Minor League system according to Baseball America, is 5-3 with a 2.75 ERA in 12 starts for the Thunder during 2006. He has struck out 76 and walked 23 over 72 IP. Hughes started the season with Tampa, (High-A FSL) and was 2-3 with a 1.80 ERA in five starts while striking out 30 and walking just two. During 2005, Hughes went a combined 9-1 with a 2.19 ERA between Tampa and the Charleston River Dogs (Low-A SAL).

Hughes was originally selected in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2004 draft.

Butto is 1-2 with a 4.42 ERA in 21 games, including one start for Trenton during 2006. He has spent time at Columbus (AAA-International League) during two separate stints and has a 0-0 record with a 0.00 ERA in three appearances. He has struck out five in four scoreless innings for the Clippers.

Butto was signed by the Yankees as a free agent on December, 18 2005.

He split time in 2005 between Clearwater (A) and Reading (AA) in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. He had a 1-2 record with a 3.49 ERA in 17 games with Clearwater. Butto notched a 2-5 record and a 3.65 ERA in 36 games with the Reading Phillies. In 2004, Butto appeared in 36 games, including 14 starts for Clearwater. Butto was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by Philadelphia (2/9/99).

The Thunder begin a four-game series in Akron tonight at 7:05 p.m. Jason Jones (0-0, 0.00) makes his Double-A debut for Trenton against Akron's Adam Miller (8-5 3.75).
