Fisher Cats fall 6-3 in New Britain in first game after all-star break

(NEW BRITAIN) - New Britain (37-51) took the opener of a five-game series with New Hampshire (39-51), winning 6-3 on Thursday night before 4,688 at New Britain Stadium.

Rock Cat DH Danny Matienzo drove in two runs with a first inning double, and hit his 11th homer in the fifth inning off New Hampshire starter and loser Ricky Romero (0-3).

SS Matt Tolbert drove in two runs with a single, and 1B Doug Deeds drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in New Britain's win.

Rock Cat starter Justin Olson (6-2) allowed 3 earned runs on 6 hits, walking 3 and striking out 8. RHP Levale Speigner retired the Fisher Cats in order in the 9th for his seventh save.

New Hampshire scored its runs off Olson in the third inning. SS Ryan Klosterman homered in his first Fisher Cat at-bat after being promoted from Class-A Dunedin.. 2B Manny Mayorson and CF Dustin Majewski followed with walks. LF Adam Lind (2-for-4, 2 RBI) drove in Mayorson and Majewski with a double to close the gap to 4-3, as close as the Fisher Cats would get.

The series continues on Friday night at 7:05pm with RHP Jesse Litsch (1-0, 3.75) scheduled to start for the Fisher Cats against Rock Cat LHP Errol Simonitsch (5-10, 4.13).
