
B-Mets begin second half on a winning note

Miguel Pinango tossed six strong innings and Corey Ragsdale and Jay Caligiuri drove in two runs, helping the Binghamton Mets to a 6-3 victory over the Bowie Baysox in the series opener Thursday. By winning their first game after the EL All-Star Break, Binghamton's been victorious in nine of their last 11.
The B-Mets (43-46) never trailed, taking the lead in the second when Ambiorex Concepcion reached Garrett Olson for a one-out double, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on Ragsdale's single to center. After Mike DiFelice followed with a base hit to right that advanced Ragsdale to third, Rashad Eldridge scored him on a fielder's choice for a 2-0 Binghamton lead.
Caligiuri's two-run homer in the third put Binghamton up 4-0 before Bowie (39-47) got on the board in the fifth. After getting the first two outs, Pinango (4-6) gave up a base hit to Bryan Bass before Cory Keylor drove him in with a double. Keylor scored on a Raul Chavez single, pulling Bowie within 4-2.
Binghamton tacked on another against Olson (1-2) in the sixth when Carlos Gomez doubled, moved to third on a Concepcion sacrifice before Ragsdale scored him with a squeeze bunt, giving Binghamton a 5-2 lead. Concepcion's eighth-inning solo homer put Binghamton up 6-2 before Pete Shier singled in Rayner Bautista in the ninth for Bowie.
Friday, the B-Mets play the second game of their four-game series against the Bowie Baysox. Michael Devaney (1-0, 0.00) will start for Binghamton against Endicott native James Johnson (8-3, 4.22) of Bowie. The first pitch is slated for 7:00 at NYSEG Stadium with radio broadcast starting at 6:45 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
