
Thunder rally falls short in Akron

(Akron OH)- Akron LF Ryan Goleski led a 10-hit attack, going 3-for-3 with two RBI, as the Aeros beat the Trenton Thunder, 4-3, on Thursday night at Canal Park.
The Aeros (55-35) scored single runs in the 1st, 2nd, 6th and 7th Inning for a 4-0 lead. Back-to-back doubles by RF Brad Snyder and Goleski off Thunder starter Jason Jones put Akron ahead, 1-0. 1B Ryan Mulhern reached on a three-base error by Thunder RF Vince Faison and scored on a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead. Jones allowed a hit and a walk in the 6th Inning, of which one run scored for a 3-0 lead. Jones (0-1), making his Double-A debut, allowed three runs (two earned) over five innings for the loss.
Meanwhile, Akron starter Adam Miller got out of some early trouble to pitch five shutout innings for the win. He allowed four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. The Thunder (49-42) got to within a run in the 8th Inning off reliever Travis Foley. DH Randy Ruiz tripled home a pair of runs and then scored on a ground out by Faison to make it a 4-3 game, but Foley retired the Thunder in the 9th Inning to close out the game.
The series continues on Friday at 7:05 PM. Tyler Clippard (4-10, 4.17) starts for the Thunder against Akron's Dan Denham (4-1, 4.85).
