
Thunder Open Finals With 5-3 Win

Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ)- Austin Jackson and Colin Curtis delivered RBI hits during a three-run 7th Inning to lead the Thunder to a 5-3 win in Game #1 of the Eastern League Championship series. Jackson led the Thunder offense with two hits and three RBI.
With the game tied at 2-2, Trenton got one-out singles from 3B Marcos Vechionacci and 2B Gabe Lopez off Akron reliever Ryan Edell. After a strikeout, Jackson singled through the right side against another Akron relief pitcher, Randy Newsom, to score Vechionacci with the lead run and 3-2 advantage. The third Akron pitcher of the inning, Rich Rundles, then allowed a two-run double to LF Colin Curtis for a 5-2 lead. Edell (0-1) took the loss allowing two runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
Thunder starter Tyler Clippard battled his control, but held the Aeros to two runs over five innings. Steven Jackson (1-0) followed with three solid innings of relief for the win. He allowed one run, an 8th Inning homer to 1B Jordan Brown, and struck out three. Justin Pope worked a scoreless 9th Inning for his 2nd save of the post-season.
Akron grabbed a 1-0 lead off Clippard int he 1st Inning as a Ryan Goleski single scored CF Trevor Crowe, but Jackson came back with two-run single in the 3rd inning to put Trenton ahead. Akron tied the game in the 5th Inning with a Michael Aubrey RBI single.
Game #2 of the E.L. Finals is Wednesday at 6:05 PM. Chase Wright (6-2, 3.26) starts for the Thunder against Akron's Chuck Lofgren (12-7, 4.37).
