Thunder Named CHL Marketing Franchise Of The Year

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder, coming off their most successful season since 1995, came away with seven nominations and the title of CHL Marketing Franchise of the Year at the 2007 CHL Awards Banquet on Saturday night in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Thunder attained their highest level of corporate support in 15 CHL seasons and drew just under 200,000 fans this past season. Their average attendance of 6,239 fans per game was the second highest in franchise history, ranked second in the CHL and fifth overall among the 54 "AA" hockey teams in North America.

The Thunder organization was also nominated for CHL Group Ticket Sales Franchise of the Year, Ticket Sales Franchise of the Year and the coveted CHL Franchise of the Year award. Wichita was also a finalist for the first ever CHL Sales and Marketing Cup, based on a number of criteria, including overall season ticket, group and corporate sales.

Individually, Thunder director of group sales Joe Greene was a finalist for CHL Ticketing Executive of the Year, while general manager Chris Presson was a finalist for CHL Executive of the Year.

One of the most successful teams in the CHL, the Wichita Thunder were nominated for six awards in 2005-06 and came away with four, including the CHL Most Improved Franchise of the Year award. The front office staffs of all CHL teams were in Phoenix for the annual CHL Summer Conference, which featured operational meetings, sales seminars and many more events. The new CHL divisional alignments, playoff format and other rule changes will be announced later today.
