SteelHounds Sign Head Coach Kevin Kaminski to Contract Extension

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - Youngstown SteelHounds owner, Herb Washington, announced today that Kevin Kaminski has signed a two-year extension to return as the team's Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations. The agreement will keep him in the Mahoning Valley through the 2008-09 season.

Kaminski, 38, took over as the SteelHounds Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations on September 13th, 2006, becoming the second coach in franchise history. In his first season with the SteelHounds he led the team to a 34-20-10 regular season record clinching the first playoff berth in SteelHounds history.

"I am excited to have Kevin back for another season and solidify him through the 2008-09 season," said Washington. "I am looking forward to seeing what Killer can do with a full off-season to assemble his team. We're very confident that he will continue improving the on-ice product pointing the SteelHounds towards a championship."

Prior to coming to Youngstown, the native of Churchbridge, Saskatchewan had previous head coaching stints with the Missouri River Otters of the United Hockey League and the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the ECHL. Kaminski broke into coaching as the assistant with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the American Hockey League under current Detroit Red Wings Head Coach, Mike Babcock. While with the Ducks, Kaminski coached current Anaheim Ducks players Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Ilya Bryzgalov, Andy McDonald and Samuel Pahlsson who just recently captured the Stanley Cup.

"I am thrilled to be staying here!" said Kaminski. "I feel that with last season, we have laid the foundation and now need to start putting up the walls and the roof that will get us to a championship."

The Hounds finished the year strong going 16-6-2 in the final two month of the season. In the playoffs, Youngstown battled the eventual CHL Champion Colorado Eagles in what was the toughest series for the Eagles. Other strong points for Kaminski's squad this past season was their 16-11-5 road record, fifth highest road point total in the CHL, and the Hounds ability to comeback from a loss. Only five times during the regular season did Youngstown not earn a point after a regulation loss.
