Scorpions Edwards Named CHL Soul of Service Finalist

[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Every June the entire Central Hockey League unites for summer conferences. On Saturday night at the year-end banquet, Scorpions' Head Coach Ray Edwards was named a finalist for the 2006-07 CHL Soul of Service Award.

The award is presented annually to the CHL executive who has best demonstrated the qualities of excellence and dedication to providing outstanding customer service. The honor was presented to Colorado Eagles' President/General Manager Ralph Backstrom.

Along with Edwards and Backstrom, Bob Hoffman of the Youngstown SteelHounds and Monty Hoppel of the Odessa Jackalopes rounded out the four finalists.

"I am quite honored to have been named a finalist for such a distinctive award," said Edwards. "Ralph certainly deserves the award and he has been a great ambassador for the league and the game of hockey."

The annual CHL Summer Conference was in Phoenix this past week and close to 400 delegates attended. The Scorpions staff was there in full force and took home with them some great ideas to help improve the organization in the upcoming season.
