Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, AHL's Bakersfield Condors and powered by Toyota, are excited to announce a partnership with The Salvation Army for a head-to-head Kettle Challenge against the Kansas City Mavericks.
Fans for both teams will compete to see who can raise the most money for The Salvation Army in their hometown.
"This is a new event for us here in Wichita and we're looking forward to an exciting evening of great hockey and helping make the holiday season a little brighter for many Wichitans," said Major Curl of Wichita. "Our iconic red kettle campaign is a holiday tradition and this promises to be a fun new venue for reaching out to the community. Oh, and we plan to show Kansas City who the real hockey fans are,"
Thunder fans are encouraged to show up and support The Salvation Army this Saturday, November 17th as the Mavericks come to INTRUST Bank Arena. The Salvation Army's iconic Red Kettles will be on hand during pregame for people to drop their donations. The Salvation Army will also be helping sell chuck-a-pucks during the game and get a portion of the proceeds for donation for that night.
"We are excited to partner with the Salvation Army for their Kettle Challenge," commented Thunder GM Joel Lomurno. " The Thunder want to do their part to help ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy the Holiday season."
Wichita returns home for back-to-back games this Friday and Saturday night against the Mavericks. Friday, November 16th is Wizards Night, honoring the world of Harry Potter. Saturday night is Nickelodeon Night featuring SpongeBob SquarePants.
