Kansas City Mavericks News Release

Kansas City, Mo. - When the Kansas City Mavericks and Wichita Thunder tangle on the ice this month, there'll be more on the line than just a win. The fans for both teams will compete to see who can raise the most money for The Salvation Army in their home towns.

Mavericks fans are encouraged to show up and support The Salvation Army at the home game against the Wichita Thunder on Friday, November 23rd. The Salvation Army's iconic Red Kettles will be on hand during pre-game for people to drop their donations. A portion of sales from that game's Chuck-a-Puck contest will also go to benefit The Salvation Army in Kansas City.

"We are extremely excited to partner with the KC Mavericks," Major David Harvey said. "The Mavericks have a devoted fan base from across the Kansas City area, and we are looking forward to sharing in the holiday season while also collecting donations to benefit people in need."

"We are excited to partner with the Salvation Army for the new Kettle Cup Trophy. We have a great rivalry with Wichita, and adding a unique aspect to an already good rivalry just enhances it," Team President and General Manager Brent Thiessen said. "We look forward to challenging the Thunder and getting behind Salvation Army."

The Wichita Thunder host the Mavericks on Saturday, November 17th and will also raise money for The Salvation Army. The team and fans which raise the most money will take home the new Golden Kettle traveling trophy until next season.

All funds raised in Kansas City and Wichita will stay in the respective communities to assist The Salvation Army social services.
