Newfoundland's Garteig Named CCM/ECHL Goaltender of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Michael Garteig of the Newfoundland?Growlers has been named the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the week of Nov. 5-11.

Garteig went 3-0-0 with one shutout, a 1.00 goals-against average and a save percentage of .971 in three appearances last week as the?Growlers extended their winning streak to six games.

The 27-year-old turned aside 30 shots in a 3-1 win against Worcester on?Tuesday, made 26 saves in a 4-2 victory over Manchester on?Friday and stopped all 44 shots he faced in a 3-0 win against the Monarchs on Saturday.

A native of Prince George, British Columbia, Garteig leads the ECHL with eight wins, ranks fifth with a .930 save percentage and is eighth with a 2.26 goals-against average.

Garteig has appeared in 58 career ECHL games with Newfoundland, Kalamazoo and Alaska posting an overall record of 31-20-5 with two shutouts, a 3.22 goals-against average and a save percentage of .903. He also has seen action in eight career games with Utica of the American Hockey League.

Prior to turning pro,?Garteig went 78-25-16 in 124 career games at Quinnipiac University with 19 shutouts, a 1.96 goals-against average and a save percentage of .917.

Runners Up: Lukas Hafner, Fort Wayne (2-0-0, 1.50 GAA, .955 save pct.) and Mason McDonald, Kansas City (2-0-0, 2.00 GAA, .937 save pct.)
