EDINBURG- The McAllen scored seven runs with two out in the bottom of the sixth inning while Alexei Perez allowed no earned runs in 8 2/3 innings to end a five-game Thunder losing streak to Rio Grande Valley with a 7-2 victory against the WhiteWings at Edinburg Baseball Stadium Tuesday night.
The game was scoreless with two out in the bottom of the sixth before Miguel Alfonzo doubled to right to put runners on second and third against Clint Bowker (1-1). With righthanded hitting Matt Redding, batting .170, on deck, WhiteWings manager Eddie Dennis ordered an intentional walk to left-handed hitting Nathan Tomasewski.
But McAllen manager Al Gallagher then sent up Geo Rosa as a pinch hitter, and the left-handed hitting catcher singled to left to open up the flood gates. Roberto Rodriguez's single to center plated two more runs to chase Bowker, and then reliever Ricardo Estevez hit Craig Hertler and walked Yaser Gomez with the bases loaded to score Rosa. Antoin Gray followed with a double to right to clear the bases and give the Thunder (26-45) a 7-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Perez (3-4) gave up seven hits, struck out seven, and walked two to earn the pitching victory before being taken out during a 2-run WhiteWings (40-30) rally in the ninth, highlighted by a Ruddy Yan RBI single that extended his hitting streak to 16 games.
