SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - In their first meeting in over three weeks at Albert Park, the Sonoma County Grapes needed 11 innings to top the San Rafael Pacifics (29-20) on Monday, 5-4. The Grapes were hot to start, taking a 3-0 lead before allowing the Pacifics to rattle off four unanswered runs down the stretch.
The Grapes (16-27) mustered one run in the top of the ninth to extend the game off a Brandon Gregorich RBI single, his 23rd of the season. The Grapes closed the game in the top of the 11th, with Michael Johnson scoring from second on a throwing error by San Rafael second baseman, Chase Fontaine.
The Pacifics four run onslaught in the seventh chased Grapes starter Dustin Crenshaw from the mound. He struck out five, allowed seven hits and four runs. Prior to the seventh inning. Crenshaw held the hottest offense in the North American League quiet with just three hits and no runs.
George Ban kick started the Grapes offense in the top of the second, notching his 18th RBI of the season off a double to plate Chris Debiasi.
Boon Maeda led off the sixth inning swinging at the first pitch he saw, crushing it over the centerfield wall for a 3-0 lead, ending the Grapes scoring bid.
Chondell Jones pitched 5 2/3 innings for the Pacifics, striking out six and allowing nine runs. In his first start for the Pacifics.
In the bottom of the seventh, Steve Boggs recorded his 20th RBI of the season, and scored the tying run for the Pacifics before they ended the inning with a 4-3 lead.
