April 6, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release
The Stockton Thunder (31-30-1-6) look to make it three wins in a row this weekend when they take on the Ontario Reign (43-18-3-4) on the road at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The game gets underway at 4:00 p.m. PST.
Thunder fans can check out the game at the team's "Home Away From Home" the University Plaza Waterfront Hotel, where they can watch the game while enjoying Thunder food and drink specials. The broadcast begins tonight at 3:45 p.m. with the Black Oak Casino Resort Pre-Game Show. Fans can watch live, online streaming video through AmericaONE Sports, or listen to free live audio through Spreaker.com and StocktonThunder.com.
After suffering their longest winless streak of the season at six-games earlier this week, the Thunder have now strung two straight wins together with a sweep of the Utah Grizzlies on Military Appreciation Weekend. It's the first time the Thunder have won two games in a row since March 2, when they beat Ontario at home.
This is the 15th meeting between the two teams in the regular season series with the Thunder having a 5-6-1-2 record against their Pacific Division rivals. Stockton has found most of its success on the road with a 5-1-0-2 record at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The Thunder had their stretch of four straight wins on Ontario's home ice broken in their last visit, a 3-1 loss on March 29.
The Thunder come into the game led by Joey Martin on the season. The Thunder's leading point-scorer had a three-point night with 1 goal and 2 assists against Utah on Saturday. Andrew Clark continues to get back into the swing of things, now up to three goals in three games for the Thunder since his return from the AHL. Clark had his third multi-goal game for the Thunder this season on Saturday.
Against the Reign, Matt Bergland, Garet Hunt and James Henry have the most points. Bergland leads everyone with 11 points on 4 goals and 7 assists in 12 contests against Ontario. Hunt and Henry both have 10 points with the Thunder captain having the most goals with five.
Goaltender Brian Foster has seen the most action in games against the Reign, getting nine starts and posting a 3-3-3 record with a .930 save percentage. Parker Milner has made 5 starts with a 2-3-0 record.
Ontario is led by forward Matt White on the season and against the Thunder. The rookie forward has 54 points this year with 4 goals and 4 assists against Stockton. Reign captain Derek Couture is tied for the most goals against the Thunder with four as well, despite missing five match-ups between the teams due to injury.
Goalie J.P. Anderson looks to get the start after Mathias Niederberger was recalled to the AHL by the Manchester Monarchs yesterday. Anderson was in between the pipes for the Thunder's last visit where he earned the victory by stopping 38 of 39 shots against him. Anderson has a record of 4-7-4 in 19 games this season with San Francisco and Ontario.
The Thunder currently sit seventh in the Western Conference standings, three points behind the Bakersfield Condors with four games left in the regular season, counting today. If the playoffs started today, the Thunder would be matched up with Ontario in the first round.
Ontario and Stockton meet one more time this season, later on this week on Wednesday in southern California. The Thunder have one more game at home this year when they finish off the regular season on Saturday, April 12, against Las Vegas. The first 1,500 fans at Stockton Arena will receive a free Thunder rally towel. It is also the Thunder's "Group Appreciation Night" with discounted tickets available for any group who had a night out a Thunder game this season. For more information, visit StocktonThunder.com.
