Last Time vs. Colorado
After a scoreless first where shots were 8-7 in favor of Colorado, Derek Rodwell broke the deadlock on a delayed penalty call. Trent Daavettila went around the boards to the opposite corner where Latvian Vitalijs Pavlovs was standing. Pavlovs zipped a pass to Rodwell who had time, space, and a thick screen in front of Kent Simpson put the puck on the far side of the goalie to make it 1-0 Eagles.
In the third it'd be more of the same as Colorado did a great job defensively, holding the Thunder to one shot on goal for much of the early going. They also managed to score thanks to Taylor Vause who tipped in a Colin Bowman point shot to make it a two-goal lead. After assisting on both of the previous two, Daavettila would get one of his own near the end of the third when he received a nice pass from Vause into the zone and the playmaking centerman beat Simpson with a wrist shot.
In the end it was a disappointing end to the Thunder's 10th ever Teddy Bear Toss game as fans threw their bears for charity after the game in what was a 3-0 Colorado win. Fans can take solace in the fact that the good deed of tossing the bears still occurred and that children in need will still receive a lovable stuffed animal. The count is set to take place on Tuesday
Tonight
The Thunder will try and come up with an effort that can thwart the Colorado Eagles, who have proved to be the Thunder's nemesis this season. After a great 4-2 win over the Eagles to start the season series in Colorado back on December 10, the Eagles have rattled off seven-straight against the Thunder.
In the history of the series between the Thunder and Eagles which dates back to 2011-12 when they came into the league from the former Central Hockey League, the series has gone 50-50 with the Thunder winning 11 and losing 11. Last season the Thunder found one extra win to take the series win as they ended the season posting a 4-3-0 record against the Eagles.
Who to Watch
Yesterday we wrote: "Call it a gut feeling but Peter Sivak is due for a big game."
Well we have to stick with him because Sivak could've scored about six goals last night if it weren't for Clarke Saunders standing on his head. You name it, it probably happened to our European player...ringing a shot off the bar, carving through the defense and wristing one at net, crashing the net hard and searching for the rebound. It all happened to our veteran forward last night who just couldn't buy a goal.
Tonight we still want to watch Sivak as he's definitely due for a great game. He had the best scoring chances last night and we feel he will be another big part of the effort tonight in the final game of the three-in-three against Colorado.
All-Time Watch
We're monitoring the situation between Garet Hunt, Ryan Constant and Mike Lalonde as Lalonde's all-time lead in points could be in danger of falling to one of the Thunder's star players soon.
Lalonde's 156 career points is in jeopardy as Constant pulled ahead with 151 points with the Thunder while Hunt is right behind them both with 148.
That means Constant is just 5 points back of tying the record while Hunt is 8 points back of tying the record. Both players have missed time due to injuries this season as Hunt missed 11 games while Constant was placed on Injured Reserve on December 14.
Hunt is the only one close to Lalonde's all-time record of 72 goals with his 56 markers, putting the Thunder captain 16 shy of tying the record.
