IceMen Come Away with a Point as Fuel Rally
January 25, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Evansville IceMen News Release
EVANSVILLE, Ind.- The Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, out shot the Indy Fuel 31-25 and out played their rivals to the north for over two periods. However, Indy rallied with a late third period goal and the overtime game winner to take a 2-1 victory away from the IceMen.
Early in first period, Matt Lowry laid a hard hit on Vincent Arseneau, who had knocked Zack Currie out of the game last night with an illegal check. Lowry dropped the gloves and fought Arseneau as soon as he made it to his feet.
The IceMen outshot the Fuel 12-2 in the opening period. However, Indy's Shane Owen stopped all 12 shots to keep the game scoreless entering the first intermission.
Over 13 minutes into the second period, Pater Sakaris drove the puck to the net and fired a backhanded shot. Owen made the save, but Mark Anthoine found the puck in the crease. Anthoine drilled it into the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Brandon Wong picked up his team leading 32nd point on the play that gave the IceMen a 1-0 led after two periods.
Shortly following the goal, Sakaris duked it out with Indy's Evan Vossen. The brawl ended with Sakaris wrestling Vossen to the ice.
With less than three minutes left in regulation Evansville held on to its 1-0 lead. However, Indy rallied as Garrett Bembridge deflected a Dillon Fournier shot into the net to tie the game at one and force overtime.
Just 38 seconds into the extra frame. Kyle Stroh broke the tie with a goal that gave Indy a 2-1 win and sent the IceMen to their eighth straight loss.
Scott Greenham stopped 23 of the 25 Fuel shots he saw, but ended up on the losing end of things. Owen earned the win with 30 saves.
Evansville will continue its six game home stand on Wednesday night, Jan. 28, as the IceMen will host the Reading Royals. It will be College Night at the Ford Center. Local college students can get $13 goal zone tickets with a student ID.
