Trenton Thunder News Release

After striking first on the scoreboard Wednesday morning, the Thunder, presented by NJM Insurance, led the lead slip away in the second inning en route to a 5-3 loss to the Akron RubberDucks at ARM & HAMMER Park.

Hoy Park led off the bottom of the first inning for the Thunder (8-4) with a double and after advancing to third on a flyout, scored on an infield grounder by Ben Ruta.

But the RubberDucks (4-9) got to Thunder starter Brody Koerner (0-1) in the second, as Tyler Krieger earned a leadoff walk and scored the tying run on a Wilson Garcia double. Garcia then scored the go-ahead run on a single by Alexis Pantoja.

Akron added two more runs in the third on a fielding error by first baseman Brandon Wagner for a 4-1 RubberDucks lead.

Koerner, however, settled down from the fourth inning through the seventh, retiring 11 of the final 12 batters he faced.

The Thunder offense went just 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and managed just two runs the rest of the way, getting a fourth-inning RBI-groundout from Wendell Rijo and a Rashad Crawford RBI-single in the ninth off closer Dalbert Siri, who recorded the save.

Jake Paulson (2-0) earned the win for Akron, allowing just two runs over seven innings.

The loss snapped a season-best five-game winning streak for the Thunder and was the team's first home loss of the year.

Your Thunder open a three-game series on the road against the Portland Sea Dogs on Thursday at 6 p.m. RHP Albert Abreu (0-1, 6.75) will start for the Thunder, and LHP Kyle Hart (0-2, 3.75) will go for Portland.
