November 24, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release

Wichita, KS - Jesse Schultz broke a tie game with just over four minutes left in regulation to help Rapid City (12-1-0) down Wichita (2-10-4) 4-2 on Saturday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. RG Flath and Jon Booras scored goals 1:19 apart in the second period to pace the Thunder. Wichita is 0-3-0 in its season-series against the Rush with four more meetings left. Rapid City stays perfect on the road while Wichita continues to look for its first win at home this season.

Both teams came out to a torrid pace to begin the game despite only allowing a combined 11 shots through the first 20 minutes. Rapid City struck first blood with 26 remaining in the period. A turnover in the neutral zone led to a odd man chance the other way and Winston Day Chief found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

In the second period, Matt Summers got clipped in the face with a high stick near the penalty boxes giving the Thunder a four-minute power play. Flath tied the game at 5:12 catching a pass near the crease and to the right side of the net on a pass from Jesse Dudas. With two minutes remaining on the power play, Booras gave Wichita its first lead of the weekend with a beautiful wrist shot from the right hash past Tim Boron at 6:31. Rapid City would then be awarded a four-minute power play near the 13 minute mark of the period as Booras was sent off for a high stick on Schultz. The Rush capitalized quickly with a goal from the blue line from Tristin Llewellyn at 13:47 and sent the game to the third frame tied at two.

Wichita controlled the third period, outshooting the Rush 11-3 down the stretch. Boron stood tall in net for the Rush and gave his team a chance to earn the win. At 16:21, Schultz was the recipient of a pass on the left side of Taylor Nelson's crease and scored to make it 3-2. The Thunder was awarded a power play on the next shift and had a late opportunity to even up the game. After moving the puck around the perimeter on two separate occasions, Andrew Martens and Dudas caught iron with long shots from the outside that didn't find the twine and the Rush would add an empty-netter to increase the lead to 4-2.

Wichita's home record dips to 0-7-2 on the season while the Rush are a perfect 7-0-0 on the road. Booras added his second goal of the year while Martens recorded his 98th career assist in a Thunder uniform. Nelson took the loss, stopping 15 of 18 shots. Boron claimed the win, stopping 23 of 25 shots on the night.

Wichita went 2-for-4 on the power play while Rapid City was 1-for-4.

The Thunder remain home next week, hosting the Brampton Beast on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. before the Thanksgiving holiday.
