Tulsa Caps off Weekend Series with 4-2 Win over Allen

TULSA, OK - Tulsa goalie Ross MacKinnon made 28 stops and earned his first win of the season as the Oilers held off a late surge from the Americans to post a 4-2 victory at the BOK Center on Sunday evening. The Oilers won two of three games in the weekend series against Allen and improved to 9-7-2 for the season.
After a scoreless first period in which the teams combined for only 14 shots, Tulsa forward Ben Gordon broke the stalemate late in the second period. Off of a long pass from MacKinnon, Gordon cruised down the right wing and fired toward Allen goalie Bryan Pitton from close range. His first offering was stopped but Gordon swatted home his own rebound to give Tulsa a 1-0 lead with 3:03 remaining in the middle frame.
At 2:52 of the third, Pitton turned the puck over deep in Americans' territory and Brandon Coccimiglio hit the open cage before Pitton could recover to push the Oilers lead to two goals. Less than two minutes later, Todd Robinson, fresh off a seven-point night in Allen on Saturday, set up the Oilers third goal of the contest. Michel Beausoleil one-timed Robinson's feed past Pitton for his seventh goal in the last six games and twelfth of the season. Beausoleil, who had 20 goals all of last season, has the longest goal streak in the CHL at six games. The Americans response came swiftly as John Snowden jammed a loose puck past MacKinnon only 17 seconds after Beasoleil's tally. Allen pulled within one on Daniel Tetrault's power play goal at 15:47 but the visitors were unable to manufacture any other offense. MacKinnon's key stops down the stretch and Ryan Cramer's empty net goal sealed the win for the Oilers.
Tulsa forward Alexandre Beauregard participated in fights in all three periods and was assessed a game-misconduct for incurring three major penalties in a single game. Drew Fisher and Ben Gordon also dropped the gloves for the feisty Oilers who finished the night with 44 penalty minutes.
The Oilers have won nine of their last 11 games and improved to 5-5-0 on home ice this season.
Next week, the Oilers start a three-game road swing in St. Charles on Wednesday night.
