Tulsa Oilers News Release
ALLEN, TX - In the most entertaining game of the Central Hockey League season, the Tulsa Oilers survived a wild and wacky night in Allen with a 10-8 victory over the Americans.
The Oilers posted season highs in goals for, goals against and shots in a single period when they fired 24 on the Allen net in the second period. Oilers center Todd Robinson scored twice and dished out six assists while right wing Adam Pleskach finished with four goals and two helpers and recorded the Oilers first hat-trick of the season.
Allen led 2-1 to start a chaotic second period that featured ten goals and a line brawl. After Pleskach's first goal of the night evened the contest at 2-2, Alex Lavoie put the Americans back on top with a successful penalty shot at the 4:35 mark. Tulsa center Kyle Bochek swatted in a backhand from his knees at 7:55 to draw the Oilers even and Pleskach gave the visitors their first lead of the evening with his second goal of the game at 9:06. Spencer Asuchak answered for the Americans on the power play at 13:06 but Pleskach came right back with a power play marker of his own at 15:06 to complete his hat-trick and put the Oilers in front 5-4. On the next shift, Americans forward John Snowden went flying into the Oilers net and a melee erupted in front of the Oilers crease. Americans goalie Bryan Pitton was the only player on the ice who didn't participate in the fighting and when the dust settled, the penalty boxes were overflowing and the Oilers had a five-minute power play. Allen forward Darryl Bootland, who started the tussle by going after Tulsa goalie Shane Madolora, was given an instigator penalty and a fighting aggressor game misconduct. The Oilers took full advantage of their opportunity and cashed in three times on their ensuing power play. Pleskach notched his fourth score of the night and Scott Macaulay and Robinson followed with goals to swell the Oilers lead to 8-4 with less than a minute remaining in the period. Lavoie snapped a shorthanded shot past Madolora with just 34 seconds left to pull the Americans back within three. Tulsa outscored Allen 7-3 and outshot the Americans 24-9 in the second period.
Two Americans power play goals in the first 3:10 of the third period cut the Oilers lead to just a single goal. Lavoie swatted a rebound past Madolora with exactly nine minutes left in regulation to even the score at 8-8 and cap off his first professional hat-trick. It only took 19 seconds for the Oilers to re-take the lead. Blair Macaualy sent a screaming slap shot past Pitton to silence the stunned crowd of 4,392 at the Allen Event Center. The Oilers clung to their narrow one-goal lead until Robinson put the contest out of reach with a brilliant individual effort on an empty net goal with only eight seconds left on the clock.
Due to three goals on one power play in the second period, Tulsa finished the night 5-for-4 with the man-advantage while the Americans ended with a 3-for-7 mark on the power play. The two clubs, meeting for the seventh time this season and second time in as many nights, racked up a combined total of 101 penalty minutes and the Oilers set a new season high with 53 penalty minutes.
The Oilers have won eight of their last ten games and will finish off the weekend series against the Americans at 4:05 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the BOK Center.
