Quad City Mallards News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - Jason Morgan delivered the only successful penalty shot and Chris Rawlings made 25 saves over 65 minutes before stopping all five Quad City Mallard penalty shots as the host Arizona Sundogs defeated the Mallards 3-2 in a shootout Saturday night.

The Mallards, who did earn one point for the shootout loss, argued that Gabriel Levesque scored what should have been the tying goal in the final round of the shootout but it was ruled that Rawlings gloved Levesque's bid just before it crossed the goal line.

The Mallards battled from behind in the third period to force the game to overtime and the shootout. Thomas Frazee stuffed in a shorthanded goal at 7:23 of the third to tie the game at two after the Sundogs' Kevin Baker had given Arizona its first lead with a tip-in at 2:45 of the final regulation frame.

It was the Mallards who had first grabbed the lead when Mike Hellyer pounced on a rebound to to score a power play goal just over two and a half minutes into the game.

Johan Ryd responded for the Sundogs by snapping home a tying goal from the right wing circle at 11:06 of the first period.
