Thunder Come Back to Top Erie
April 9, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Trenton Thunder News Release
Trenton, NJ- Pitching was the name of the game for the second straight night, as the Thunder won over the Erie SeaWolves 3-1 on Friday night. With the win, the Thunder improve to 2-0 and win their first two games of the season since 2003.
Trenton RHP Ryan Pope made his first start of 2010 and pitched 5 solid innings, while allowing just 1 run and striking out 7. He surrendered the lone run in the 4th inning as a Cesar Nicolas RBI single into rightfield allowed Cale Iorg to score the first run of the season for Erie, and the âWolves took a 1-0 lead.
Trenton came back to take the lead in the 6th, as a RBI triple by Brandon Laird put the Thunder in front 2-1. David Adams started the rally with an infield single, and then went to 3rd base on an Austin Romine single to right field. Laird was the next hitter and roped a fly ball into right-centerfield that scored Adams and Romine.
Two SeaWolves errors gave Trenton an additional insurance run in the bottom of the 7th inning. A fielding error by Erie SS Cale Iorg allowed Austin Krum to reach base safely, and he later scored on an error by RF Josh Burrus off a fly ball from Thunder hitter Austin Romine.
RHP Grant Duff closed out the game for the second night in a row and picked up his first save of the season.
The Thunder and SeaWolves square off tomorrow night for the third game of a four game set from Waterfront Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
